Modern driftwood

Plastic might be considered to be a modern type of driftwood. It is trash and it pollutes nature, but at the same time it might be a valuable source of material.

In the year 2050 it's estimated that there will be more plastic than fish in the sea. September 16th is the International coastal clean-up day. In the video below we join two farmers that make fencing posts from recycled plastic that has drifted ashore.

To create awareness of this issue we collaborated with Studio Eyjolfsson, a studio that specializes in context and narrative. They started thinking about the likeness between driftwood and the plastic garbage that drifts ashore. "We got to know Vidir that runs a company called Durinn that makes fencing posts from recycled plastic. This gave us the idea to make a video about farmers that use the material that drifts ashore and make their own fencing posts,- not from wood but from plastic“ says Gardar Eyjolfsson.
