Fur
All real fur used in 66°North products is from the Finnish auction house Saga Furs. Saga Furs is the only fur seller in the industry with a supplier certification and auditing programme on the environment and animal health and welfare.
The Saga Certification system has been in place since 2005 and during this time, the scheme has been developed in cooperation with the industry, Finnish authorities, the EU as well as veterinarians specialised in fur farming. The certification’s main criteria are the following:
- Animal well-being and health
- Conditions for rearing animals
- Farm hygiene
- Breeding
- Environmental Management
- Feed Management
- Training and preparing for exceptional situations
The Saga Furs Traceability System (STS) is a chain of custody documentation that provides transparency and traceability in the value chain. The system enables Saga Furs’s suppliers, the manufacturers, to trace the origin of the pelt lots down to individual farms allowing Saga Furs to verify the origin and location of the skins for each lot. The system furthermore discloses the proportion of certified farms, dates of farm certification and the countries of origin.
