First day of summer
This year’s summer gift is 66°North
In Iceland, we are always waiting for summer.
Sometimes we wait for summer all "summer" long.
But on Thursday, April 23rd, the wait is officially “over” as we celebrate the First Day of Summer. Yes, it might still be snowing. No, that doesn’t stop us. It’s such a big deal that it’s actually a bank holiday in Iceland.
Traditionally, it’s also the time to give a sumargjöf, which translates to summer gift.
