The fisherman print
Everyday at sea, captured in print.
The story of 66°North began in 1926 in the fishing village of Suðureyri, where our founder, Hans Kristjánsson, started crafting protective garments for the Icelandic fishermen who faced the unforgiving North Atlantic every day.
This new limited-edition Dyngja capsule is a tribute to that heritage, introducing for the first time our new Dyngja shell jacket and pants alongside the fisherman’s Print.
The fisherman’s print was developed from the marks left on a fisherman’s bibs worn in the Westfjords of Iceland. The stains of oil, salt, and time tell a story of resilience and survival at sea, reimagined here as a tribute to the endurance of Icelandic fishermen.

We met with Gauti to capture images of him wearing the Dyngja shell jacket and pants. Gauti is a 54-year-old professional fisherman from Grindavík. Gauti started working the sea at just 16 and has been fishing with his brother on their family boat ever since. His life and work have recently returned to their familiar routine; after a period of volcanic activity, he is once again sailing from his home port in Grindavík, an adjustment that underscores the fluid, ever-changing nature of living in Iceland.
