Congratulations fishermen!
In June every year, Iceland celebrates Sjómannadagurinn or Fishermen‘s Day in honor of the brave people who have worked hard to support Iceland‘s main industry and lifeline.
The day is marked by festivities, parades, rowing and swimming races, etc.
This day means a lot to us as 66°North was founded in 1926 by Hans Kristjánsson with the purpose of making protective clothing for Icelandic fishermen and workers braving the North Atlantic elements.
T-shirt inspired by Iceland's fishworking heritage
We introduce the heritage-inspired T-shirt featuring a photograph of an apron, which became essential workwear for fish-processing workers operating on docks and at fish plants around the country. Built to withstand water, fish oils and demanding daily use, it became a symbol of the hardworking communities that formed the backbone of Iceland's coastal economy.
This graphic pays tribute to that heritage through archival imagery and the iconic white PVC apron bearing the classic 66°North logo.
